Q: What is a Genetic Calculator?
A: Genetic Calculator - an interesting and unique product for solving the genetic problems. With this calculator you can generate results for any types of genetic crosses. More details about the calculator you can find in the article:

Q: Where typing the parents genotypes?
A: You need type the parental genotypes in the text boxes "Parent genotype 1" and "Parent genotype 2." If both parental genotypes are identical, then you can type only one genotype in one of the text boxes. You can also copy the value from the clipboard (the button "Copy from clipboard"). How to write parental genotypes correctly in the calculator you can find in the article:

Q: What types of results can be obtained?
A: Genetic Calculator can generate ratio and the frequency of genotypes, phenotypes and gametes (this is useful if you need to solve the genetic crossing with the recombination of linked genes). You can choose the desired value using radio buttons: "Gametes of genotype 1 or 2", "Genotypes", "Phenotypes" è "Traits phenotypes". [Back to the top]

Q: What is the order of steps to solve the problem?
A: The algorithm looks like this:
Type parents genotypes.
Choose type of results.
Push "Calculate" button.

Q: What is "Total" and "Unique" fields?
A: "Total" - is the total number of individuals ( base number of genotypes in the cross ), and "Unique" - the number of unique genotypes or phenotypes. You can also specify by yourself the total number of individuals for the cross. To do this, simply enter the desired value in the box "Size" of "Random statistic" and click "Calculate". Q: What is "Random statistic"?
A: This module is based on the random number generator and used to simulate the results of real genetic experiments. Genetic Calculator can generate a random statistical distribution for the results of any genetic crosses. So the real experiment can be replaced by a virtual one. This feature can be very useful, because real experiments are often fraught with some difficulties. [Back to the top]

Q: How to save the obtained results?
A: In the menu "File" has two menu items: "Save as" and "Save". Push "Save As" button to save in new text file or "Save" button to append a data in already opened file. Data is saved in plain text file, which you can open with any text editor. [Back to the top]

Q: How to find the ratio or the frequency of the exact genotype or phenotype?
A: You should't do this job manually - searching that value from all genotypes or phenotypes list. When you click "Calculate" button, the program automatically fills the table "Find" by all possible combinations for each gene ( on tab "Find"). You only need to select the desired value and click "Find". For example, if you calculate the genotypes and the parents have genotype "AaBb", then in the table "Find" will be two cells. The list of values opens if you do the mouse click on a cell. For the first cell it will be the values: "AA", "Aa", "aa", and for the second: "BB", "Bb", "bb". If you are looking, for example, genotype "Aabb", then you should choose the "Aa" - in the first and "bb" in the second. And push "Find" button. [Back to the top]

Q: How to work with Traits phenotypes?
A:The algorithm looks like this:
You need to choose and open Traits file on the tab Traits.
You can use the table "Genes combinations" to fill the parental genotypes.
Using radio button choose for results - "Traits phenotypes".
Push "Calculate" button.
More details about how to work with Traits files you can find in the article:

Q: How to switch between calculators?
A: Using the menu item "Genetic calculators" you can switch between the calculators. All data in the previous calculator will be saved. [Back to the top]
